Tucson considers itself a “bicycle friendly” city. There are numerous bicyle paths and the weather allows for much longer riding seasons than in other parts of the country. Every year on the Saturday before Thanksgiving Tucson is host to the UMC El Tour de Tucson bicycle tour, presented by Diamond Ventures – the largest perimeter bicycling event in America. Over $26 million for non-profit charitable organizations has been raised by the tour over the past 26 years.

For the next month there will be a dramatic swell in the bicycles on the road as riders train for the event. Always watch for bicycles and motorcycles when you are behind the wheel, but this month in particular, please be extra careful, as there will be additional riders on the roads we share. Also remember to plan your Saturday November 21 driving plans around the fact that the 27th annual tour will be taking place. Your travel may be slowed, as the over 9,000 participants cross your path.
