Yesterday I had a photography job in Tombstone, so when we got done my assistant and I made a side trip to Apple Annie’s Orchard in Willcox to pick peaches before heading back to Tucson. They are right in the middle of “peach mania” which runs through mid-August. The orchard was quiet, since we were there on a week day, but if you go on the weekend it’s pretty hopping. On the weekends the eatery is open, serving barbecued apple-smoked burgers from 11:30 to 4 PM and an all-you-can-eat pancake with peaches breakfast from 7 to 10:30 AM. Produce is available from bushels they have picked or you can grab a fruit picker and a bucket and pick your own at a 30 cent per pound discount. The gala apples and asian pears are also ready for picking this week, but check the Apple Annie’s web site for the full harvest schedule for all the produce they grow. They are open through the summer from 8 AM to 5:30 PM. Visit their site for more information and a map at www.appleannies.com.
